Newcastle Airport’s new terminal has picked up a green gong, according to Australian Aviation, after opening in late 2025. The report says the terminal was assessed across areas including energy efficiency, operational performance, environmental impact reduction and sustainable building practices.
GBCA CEO Davina Rooney described the rating as a “significant milestone”, which is a neat marker for a regional airport that has been steadily lifting its profile. It is also a timely story for the winter travel period.
Newcastle is not just a local gateway for the Hunter; it sits close to wine, coast, events, visiting-friends-and-relatives travel, and business movement across the region. When airport terminals improve, the passenger experience around those seasonal peaks becomes part of the wider tourism picture, not just a building story.
One aviation planning angle stands out: regional airports are increasingly being judged on the whole access experience, not only runway and apron capacity.
